What is Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (CBH?)

Cognitive Behavioural hypnotherapy is a flexible approach. It’s designed in such a way that the therapist and client are able to work together to achieve the therapy goal.

CBT helps you understand the thoughts and feelings that influence your behaviours. During the course of treatment you learn how to identify and change unhelpful thought patterns that have a negative influence on your behaviour and emotions, so that you can take control of how you interpret and deal with life.

Hypnosis works by allowing you to be absorbed and focused for periods of time on the thoughts and experiences you’d like to be having. Hypnosis is a simple but extraordinarily powerful state in which, if you choose to, you can change behaviour, physical reactions, beliefs and emotional responses. It is an effective way to align the conscious mind, your willpower and the subconscious mind – allowing you to make powerful, deep changes to improve the quality of your experience.

What to expect in a session

Sessions begin with a discussion and a review of your progress towards your treatment goal. We talk about what it is you’re after, your problem and what you’d like to gain from treatment. Together we will look at the issue, how you experience it and how it affects your life. We work towards a personal treatment programme, tailored to you and your individual experience. The number of sessions you need will depend on you and your situation. You may get what you need after just one session, while others may need three, four or more sessions.

Your role

You may also be given tasks to complete at home, between sessions. This may include recordings of hypnotic suggestions and/or a therapy diary to record your thoughts and development. You may also be taught self-hypnosis techniques, to help you continue treatment outside of sessions and long after treatment is over.
